Under the theme of "Futures of society", we present relevant findings of our current research in various formats

The Sociology Department team focusing on social inequalities will be strongly represented at the 43rd Congress of the German Sociological Association in Mainz (28 September–2 October 2026).

Nicole Burzan will present at the joint section event of the Ageing and Society and Economic Sociology sections with a talk entitled “The Intergenerational Contract in the Context of Status Maintenance in the Middle and Upper Classes”. In addition, together with Kathrin Leuze, Robin Saalfeld and Sylka Scholz, she is organising the ad hoc group “Wealth Inequality I: Property and Wealth Inequalities in the Private Sphere” and will contribute an impulse talk at the information event on funding opportunities provided by the German Research Foundation.

Philipp Kadelke will give a presentation at the Urban and Regional Sociology section event entitled “The Faces of Our Cities: On the Formative Role of Small Private Landlords”. He will also present in the ad hoc group “Property and Wealth Inequalities in the Private Sphere” with a talk entitled “In the Name of the People – Property Inequality in Tenancy Law Jurisprudence”, offering insights into new findings from the landlords project.

Drawing on the Wealth Project, Benjamin Neumann and Marliese Weißmann will present at the Biographical Research section event on “Inheritance, Family, Future: Familial Negotiations of Wealth-Critical Heirs to Millions”.

Nico Steinmann is co-organising the ad hoc group “Futures of Consumption: New Dynamics of Evaluation and Recommendation in Digital Market Relations” and will present a talk entitled “Evaluating, Recommending, Staging: Influencers on YouTube as Market-Relevant Cultural Intermediaries”.
