Nico Steinmann took part in the RN05 [ESA] Winter School in Trento (Italy) from February 16-20. Early career researchers came together there to discuss developments and concepts in the sociology of consumption with experienced researchers.

In February 2026, Nico Steinmann took part in the RN05 Winter School, organized by the Research Network on the Sociology of Consumption (RN05) of the European Sociological Association (ESA). The event, organized by the University of Trento, offered PhD-students and young researchers an intensive examination of theoretical and empirical approaches to consumer research.

The Winter School shed light on how consumption practices reflect and at the same time shape social, cultural and economic transformations. In lectures, workshops and discussion rounds, participants explored topics such as sustainability, political consumption, (digital) social inequalities and the interactions between the body, fashion and technology. In addition, individual consultation sessions offered the opportunity for in-depth feedback from renowned academics.

Participation was a valuable experience: the Winter School not only provided new theoretical perspectives, but also an opportunity to exchange ideas with international peers and to develop one's own research approach.
