In the volume "Männlichkeit(en) Transformieren?!", edited by Johanna Pangritz, Benjamin Neumann discusses the vulnerability of boys and men to violence in the context of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church

"For around 40 years, transformation diagnoses regarding masculinity(ies) have been made in various places in the German-speaking context of upbringing and education: Boys find themselves in an educational crisis in line with the ongoing public debate, the recruitment of male professionals is intended to contribute to a change in images of masculinity in the field of education and fathers also increasingly see it as their responsibility to take an active part in the upbringing of their children. In this context, education and upbringing are repeatedly discussed as elements that can contribute to the transformation of masculinity(ies). This volume aims to do this from different perspectives."

In his contribution "Relationships of violence: masculinity, vulnerability and transformative potential using the example of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church", Benjamin Neumann examines the violence experienced by boys and men. With the help of a discourse-analytical look at public-media discourses since the beginning of the 2010s and with the inclusion of scientific and legal expertise, the article discusses how gendered orders of recognition and visibility (re-)produce established concepts of masculinity, but also contain transformative potentials.
