"Die beharrliche Mitte - Wenn investive Statusarbeit funktioniert" (VS 2022): A symposium by Nicole Burzan and Philipp Kadelke

In the publication entitled "Die beharrliche Mitte - Wenn investive Statusarbeit funktioniert", the authors Nils C. Kumkar, Stefan Holubek-Schaum, Karin Gottschall, Bettina Hollstein and Uwe Schimank examine the life conducts (Lebensführung) of members of the middle classes in Germany. Their focus is on the dimension of (investive) work on social status, and the authors demonstrate empirically – in contrast to some rather gloomy diagnoses of the present – that the middle classes secure their status much more calmly than in panic.

Along the study, Prof. Dr. Nicole Burzan and Philipp Kadelke discuss the conceptual and empirical challenges of conducting appropriate research on middle classes in the format of a symposium. The tenor of the symposium is that the study makes an important contribution to the areas of middle class research and diagnoses of the present.
