The DFG-funded research project on small-scale private landlords in Germany starts its first year

What motivates people to let residential property? What challenges do they face in letting practice? How do they perceive political decisions, such as the recent controversial Heating Act or demands for rent limits? Many questions guide our research, whereby we are always interested in the landlords' perspectives.

Multi-method approaches are planned for the first year of the project, focusing primarily on initial qualitative guided interviews throughout Germany and flanking quantitative analyses, initially based on the Socio-Economic Panel and the Household Finance and Consumption Survey.  Further planned work steps are being prepared, such as a content analysis of rulings by the Federal Court of Justice on tenancy law or a sorting review of international landlord research.
