Congress of the German Sociological Association 2025

At the 42nd Congress of the German Sociological Association (from 22/09/25 till 26/09/2025 at the University of Duisburg-Essen), Prof. Dr. Nicole Burzan's chair will be present with several contributions and will showcase current research on the congress theme of “Transitions”.
Nico Steinmann will be presenting two aspects of his current dissertation work on the topic of digital consumption staging. On the one hand, he will talk about influencers as intermediaries between (economic) markets & consumers in the section on economic sociology (“Wirtschaft in Transitionen”), and on the other hand, in the ad hoc group “Transitionen on Rewind: Videoanalysen von Übergangsphänomenen”, he will deal with special challenges in the analysis of YouTube videos.
Benjamin Neumann (and Marliese Weißmann; Sociological Research Institute Göttingen) will provide insights into their current empirical findings on familial relationships between members of wealthy families (from the Volkswagen Foundation-funded project “Wealth as a social relationship”) in the section event on family sociology (“Aktuelle Projekte familiensoziologischer Forschung”).
Philipp Kadelke discusses observations from the DFG-funded project “Private small-scale landlords in Germany” in the ad hoc group “Wohnungskrise als Treiber sozialer Ungleichheit und Konflikte”. In the ad hoc group “Miethaie zu Fischstäbchen – Die Politisierung von Wohnungsmarktakteuren als Transitionsmarker”, initiated together with Jenny Preunkert, he explores (along with Jenny Künkel, Moritz Rinn and Felicitas Sommer) whether housing policy is currently in a phase of upheaval.
Nicole Burzan is giving the laudatory speech for the award for outstanding achievements in the field of public impact of sociology.
