Wrap-Up-Discussion of the Research Project "Kleinvermieter*innen in Deutschland"

Who are Germany’s private small-scale landlords, and what role do they play in the housing market? Join Nicole Burzan and Philipp Kadelke on 29 January 2027 at the Dortmunder U as they share key findings from their ongoing research and invite you to explore and discuss the role of this important yet often overlooked group of housing providers.

While the rental housing crisis is the subject of heated debate and large housing corporations dominate public attention, small-scale landlords remain largely under the radar – even though they constitute the largest group of housing providers, including in major cities. As our research project on this often-overlooked group draws to a close, we will share our findings with the public and invite discussion.

In the first part of the event, we will present key findings from the research project, which will be commented on and discussed by two external researchers. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the role of small-scale landlords in rental housing practices and society, featuring representatives from the German Tenants’ Association (Deutscher Mieterbund) and Haus & Grund, among others. Audience members are warmly invited to join the discussion.

When? 29 January 2027, 1:00–5:30 p.m., followed by an informal get-together with drinks and finger food.

You can find the preliminary programme here (PDF). A more detailed programme will be available shortly.

Where? Hochschuletage, Dortmunder U (1st floor), Leonie-Reygers-Terrasse, 44137 Dortmund, Germany
