What impact did contact restrictions have on the relationships of middle-class families during the pandemic? This question is addressed in a recent article by Dr. Miriam Schad and Dr. Andrea Hense, which appeared in the Special Issue on the Corona Pandemic and the Impact on Social Inequalities in the journal Soziale Welt. Based on Granovetter's network theory, the article analyzes the changes in strong and weak ties in different spheres of life of middle-class families and their significance for coping with the crisis. The results are based on the DFG project " Status maintenance in the ‘social middle’: intergenerational stability in occupational fields of the middle class ", which was conducted in cooperation with the institute SOFI Göttingen. The researchers were surprised by the pandemic consequences during the project, and new questions arose. This and other interesting articles on the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic can be found here.
